Colour – Statement of the Season

  • August 9, 2017

This season is the time of the primary.  Bold is the new statement and its taking over in an unconventional way.  Primary colours have infiltrated the closets of the sartorial elite and its phenomenal.  It’s so refreshing seeing the array of colours dazzle through the fresh new looks in street style.  The current looks are more daring and innovative as styling these hot hues can be a bit tricky as they call for more creativity.  However they seem to be done with ease for those who have their personal style down packed.  This new influx of colour was the perfect trend wave seeing that things were beginning to get a bit repetitive amongst the fashion forward.  I for one am shocked at the eagerness at which I indulged, this is how I knew we needed a sartorial change.  From last seasons runways right to my wardrobe, I latched on to the colourful change and so did fashions haut monde.  It’s shocking how the soul yearns for change that your subconscious indulges without your consent.  I found myself bathing in red in the earlier months; every other day I was embellished in the scarlet shade.  I was disgusted. It was so good and it didn’t end there.  I found my self adding more and more bold colours to the mix, shopping and adding pieces in these primary hues.  There’s one piece that I bought that are my SATC shoes and it will be shore to give Carrie Bradshaw herself major shoe envy. In a major way I appreciated the tonal shift as my obsession, along with the worlds, we swayed from red, jumped passed orange and landed on yellow.

Colour is the statement of the season, and yellow is it!  How exciting is this shade? It’s the perfect addition to the summer wardrobe.  This fabulous primary suits every and anyone once you figure out the tricks of the shade.  The best thing about these statements are their emotive abilities.  They give both the wearer and the witness a sense of self.

According to colorpsychology.org “Yellow is the brightest color of the visible spectrum, and it is the most noticeable of all colors by the human eye.  It means happiness and optimism and springs creativity.  It is believed to have an influence on the left side of our brains, where deep thinking and perception dwells.”  The best kept secret of fashion is to mix it up, and adding colour here and there is the easiest way to transform your collection.  Colour is the new trend and it’s fabulous because it’s inclusive.  Its not a designer item stationed on Bond Street, it’s wherever, what ever and as pricey as you want it to be.  This movement is independent of influence, it is a personal and unique choice.  This is where personal style comes into play.

Summer StyleInjecting such a bright colour into your life might be intimidating but the simple way of tapping into the trend without being pretentious while still stylish is to add it to a key piece.  Bring your personality to the trend.  The confidence you have in your self and personal style will set you apart from the crowd.  Adding yellow to your accessories is a fool proof way of indulging without completely committing.  Later on I share how a touch of colour can light up your ensemble with my latest Aldo addition.  Going this route means the pieces can make their debut in hopes that they sit well with the crowd before the colour trend makes a return appearance in the lead role.  I love simple yet classic silhouettes so I got this classic tank in this honey cast.  I stuck with only one pop of colour because it was the focus piece.

I paired yellow with black because it’s a classic colour combination along with my favourite shade.  Because the tank is simple I added the drama with the sequence mini and sock boots.  Though striking and different, it felt familiar because I stuck to my personal style.  Another tip is to find the hue that’s right for you.  Primary yellow is the seasons banner but a mustard tone looks beautiful on a dark or olive skin tone.  Switching up the hues can remove the risque of you looking like a caricature of your stylish self.  One’s satiation will be complete once its time to transition tones for the next season.  Praises of primary might not be the tune of the Fall but a shift in the shades could continue the colour revolution.

It will be interesting to see if these colours will transition into Fall/Winter.  Yellow isn’t far down the spectrum from orange and could make a grand statement on the streets of fashion week.  Curious thing fashion.  One minute you’re in, next minute your trash, your vintage is timeless while new ins are disposable.  To keep your relevance indulge in the colour statement while it’s still trendy.
