Ulla Johnson, SS ’18- NY Fashion Week

  • September 8, 2017

New York Fashion Week Ulla Johnsons Spring Summer ’18 show exudes fairy-tale whimsy perfectly complimented by her thematic set design of mirrored floors and hushed flora. Poetry, the art of moving ones spirit with the messages of delicate beauty. A quiet peace can be seen through the designers pieces as they debuted down the runway. A nod to the classical beauty of Spring and youthful spirits were the necessary floral, crochet and ruffle touches breathing life into the garments. Crisp white and strong hues were presented as Ulla shifts from the tabooed feminine pallet introducing a subtler elegance to women’s fashion. A designer fresh to my eyes has sparked interest with this collection. With each step and beat of the soundtrack you can imagine the sophisticated haiku read from the stitch lines as we gaze upon the enchanted beauty not to be shrouded by the structured pieces sprinkled among the soft dresses. Women from all walks will appreciate the heart felt behind each piece as it speaks to the core of womanhood.

The colour sweeping the fashion scene, millennial pink and its variants made its way to this Spring Summer collection in a chic and easy way. The unique cuts and silhouettes made for an entertaining group where the individual styling speaks to varying women from edgy chic to fabulously feminine creating a unique air of inclusion. A reflection to Summer ’17 season of colour will be reintroduced come next year as her vibrant colour choices are impeccable, sure to be captured in street style. Going along the gradient of lightest to darkest, fem to not so much she tells the story through colour, cut, fabric and design bringing us along as we shift from light and whimsical white and sheer to black and structured bold female with slight variance in between. This collection was undeniably female and striking with unique hidden gems pooling the point like the white eyeliner gracing the models faces.
