Oscar de la Renta Spring Summer 2018

  • September 12, 2017

Oscar de la Renta, said with the same excitement as a wild Carrie Bradshaw in her prime secretly ran through the minds of the haute monde as the pieces worked their way down the runway.  The inner workings of Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia came to life in their Spring Summer ’18 show, all while paying not so subtle homage to the house’s creator, Oscar himself, in a way that is unorthodox for the classic house.  Pairing with their peculiar praises were the designs and silhouettes which scream new world, youth and generational which are steps away from the classic feminine bodices of years past.  This youthful injection has potential whirlwind impact as it broadens the audience and occasion to don these designer pieces.  Oscar de la Renta is known for his beautiful ball gowns which were present in this year’s showing, seen with beautiful full skirts and fitted bodies in the most delicate of fabrics which flowed with the models effortlessly.  Pairing it back from the formal wear were beautifully constructed forward thinking shirt dresses and oversized sets coupled with a unique design which will be beloved by a younger crowd.  The paint splatter, love letters to the house and OSCAR adorning fabrics made a bold statement, where the garment created a voice of its own; one that will be heard and echoed once entering and existing a room.  In addition to bright spring colours they too have indulged in designer denim, as seen throughout fashion week, showing a few pieces in the casual fabric in non-casual ways, pairing a two piece set with a printed fur coat a la high-end meets street.  The collection was very out there which may not sit well with few as the mix of casual, formal and day dresses in between may be much to handle.  However, dissolving the collection and looking at its essence reveals its youthful, feminine and adventurous core.  One that I would subscribe to.
